Bridging the Digital Talent Gap

Posted · Add Comment

Perhaps you’ve seen it.  The recent report from the Online Marketing Institute discussing the Digital Talent Gap.  The demand for talent with a deep understanding of Digital Marketing has grown exponentially but the talent pool has not.  Companies from the top advertising agencies to the Fortune 500 are feeling the pinch and as digital technology advances the demand for strong talent will only grow.  The report, surveying almost 750 Fortune 500 and ad agency execs reveals:

  • More than one-third of respondents have not hired in the past year because they are overwhelmed by the various sources available and cannot identify a “go-to” resource for talent
  • Nearly one-third of large enterprises and agencies are unable to successfully weed through the resumes they receive and can’t adequately distinguish between individuals with the right skills, and those without
  • Almost one-third of these organizations are hindered by the time consuming act of weeding through the resumes they receive

This gap extends well beyond the entry level and into the C Suite – top level strategists and executives with deep understanding of digital marketing are especially in demand to lead and guide organizations in the 21st century.  As one respondent stated, “We have found people who are good at ‘digital’ but poor at marketing; occasionally vice versa, but few candidates with standout capabilities on both sides.”

If your organization is having difficulty bridging the Digital Talent Gap, it might be a good time to consider bringing in an Executive Search Consultant to assist you.
