The latest data from LinkedIn provides great information to work with in developing your talent strategy in today’s labor market. Talent strategy should be done prior to beginning your talent sourcing. You can read the full report here.

Hiring was strong in April, up 19.8% from last year at the same time. There is a shortage of marketing talent, with the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, Seattle, Washington DC and New York City coming in with the greatest shortages of people with marketing skills.

Talent strategy should be done prior to beginning your talent sourcing

The cities gaining the most people are those that have more affordable housing and strong hiring. The cities gaining the most people nationally are Denver, Austin, and Seattle.

San Francisco has it’s own unique challenges, experiencing one of the highest migrations rates, both to and from, in the country.

Regarding migration trends in and out of the SF Bay Area, The SF Bay gained the most workers in the last 12 months from New York City, Boston, and Chicago. The most migration out of the SF Bay is going to Seattle, Portland, and Denver.

The San Francisco Bay Area has the most gross migration (gains + losses) with Los Angeles, New York City, and Sacramento.

So what does all this data mean to your talent strategy?  Depending on where you are trying to fill jobs in the US, it gives you data on where your talent sourcing efforts will pay off at a higher rate. If you are targeting talent from migration cities to the market that you are recruiting for, you are increasing your chance of success.
