CMO.com has come out with what they believe to be the 5 biggest Marketing Trends for 2019.  While there’s nothing earth shattering in terms of new ideas, they share some slight shifts in the marketing trends that we’ve seen over the last few years.Insight on Marketing Trends for 2019 from a premier executive search firm specializing in marketing and creative

  1. Data-Driven Creativity Will Be A Strategic Differentiator In Customer Experience

The blur between creative/content generation and data will get even blurrier.  “One of the things that came out of that study was that companies that integrate data and creativity in their day-to-day practices actually drive two times the growth of companies that have those capabilities but manage them separately…The McKinsey research also found that many of the companies looking to integrate the two disciplines are on the hunt to hire “whole-brained talent,” who are both left- and right-brained. In other words, 2019 may very well be the year of the data-driven creative.”  We’ve been placing what we called “Left-Brained Creatives” with our clients for going on 13 years.  If you’re looking for your next data driven marketer, please feel free to connect with us.

  1. Retailers Will Double Down On Experiential Commerce

E-Commerce is “I see, I like, I click, I buy”.  One and done.  Experiential Commerce is “I see, I like, I research, I wanna check out what this is all about”.  It’s an online-offline interaction between a customer and a brand. Remember when Best Buy was complaining about show rooming?  We saw that as a major opportunity – the fact that people actually got out of their chairs, travelled to a brick and mortar location, and engaged with their brand was a chance to directly engage with their customers and create a relationship.  And while they seem to have stabilized and adopted that very approach, one wonders where they’d be if they’d adopted an Experiential Commerce approach back in 2014.

  1. Personalization: Connecting Content & Data—Ethically

How do you personalize content without, well, getting too personal?  One to one marketing is on the rise and will only become more prevalent. “Privacy, of course, will play a big role in an organization’s personalization strategy. New laws…mean marketers must be focused on ensuring ethical data collection practices and earning consumers’ trust…That involves having an ethical view of how the organization manages customers’ data, protects that data, and establishes governance around how that data is utilized.”  Well, nice to see that ethical behavior regarding data collection is becoming trendy.

  1. Account-Based Marketing In B2B To Hit New Highs

“‘Today, account-based marketing (ABM) is in its early stages, with tech companies ahead of other industries in their use of this strategy. A lot of companies know it is important, but they don’t have the right skills and resources in-house’. That said, he expects to see a much bigger focus and strategy around ABM in 2019.”  Does your team have the right skills and resources in-house to make ABM a focus for 2019?  If not, drop us a line.

  1. Experience Business 2.0: The Next Steps In Marketing Transformation

Simplification is the name of the game, paring down redundant marketing technologies and focusing on Customer Experience Management. “The next iteration of marketing transformation might very well be a move toward agile…(with) significant forward momentum in how many companies are transforming to agile marketing practices in 2019.”  Is your team ready for the next step in Marketing Transformation?  If not, give us a call.
